BIODIVERSITY: IMPORTANCE OF INTERACTION
HABITAT AND NICHE
FOR YOUR NOTEBOOK
Ecosystem Interactions
Interactions between and among organisms are important in an ecosystem
Biological interactions can be within the same species or between different species
Provides a framework for the movement of energy flow in ecosystems
Communities of organisms increase the chances of survival for any one species by using available resources in different ways
By using different resources, the survival of different populations will increase because they are not sharing the same resources
Habitat: an area where an organism lives
Depending on the habitat and the community, there may be different interactions occurring
Niche: role or position that an organism has in its environment
Organisms use their niche in order to meet their need for food, shelter, and reproduction
Can also be described as requirements for living space, temperature, moisture, or mating and reproduction
