OUR GALAXIES AND OUR GOLDEN DISC

WHAT'S OUT THERE AND HOW WE WANT THEM TO HEAR US
WE ARE VIEWING OUR OWN MILKY WAY (SPIRAL) GALAXY HERE

FOR YOUR NOTEBOOK:

6 Types of Galaxies:  (We have theorized a progression in Galaxy formation in the picture in the background)

  • Elliptical - Ellipsoidal in shape.  Smooth Edges

    • Lenticular - Lenticular galaxies are disc galaxies that have used up or lost most of their interstellar matter and therefore have very little ongoing star formation.  It's the transition between Elliptical and Spiral

    • FROM HERE WE GET
      • Spiral - flat, rotating wisps of gas and dust.  Usually a bulge of energy/stars in the middle.
      • Barred Spiral - flat, rotating wisps of gas and dusts that are easily defined into arms.  Usually a bulge of energy/stars in the middle.

  • Irregular - No organized size or shape.

    • Peculiar - Classification of Irregular Galaxies.  Have whips and bulges, but in a chaotic form.  5-10% of Galaxies.  Size and shape uncharacteristic of anything else.

Golden Record:  We've sent a probe out into space at 60,000 Km/hr and it's sending messages out to anyone with the technology to receive it!  It has some of Earth's most treasured speeches, music, and monumental movements.  We are hoping that aliens may be able to decode our radio frequencies and find us.
