FOR YOUR NOTEBOOK:
Lesson 7: Mimicking Gravity | Coalescence | Revolution | Rotation
Key Concepts:
Objects that are further apart, have less gravitational force on one-another.
Weight is a force due to gravity. If we can mimic that force in space, we can make our astronauts feel like they are on Earth during their journey.
Orbital motion occurs from objects having an outward acceleration (due to motion) equaling an inward acceleration (due to gravity).
Key Terms:
Coalescence - When objects come together to form larger objects. In space, gravity causes this.
Revolution - When one object travels around another
Rotation - When an object spins
Centripetal Force - a force that acts on a body moving in a circular path and is directed toward the center around which the body is moving.
