Human Population Trend- Data Analysis

Demography - the study of human population size, density, distribution, movement, and birth and death rates

Demographic Transition - change in a population from high birth and death rates to low birth and death rates

Population Growth Rates (PGR)

• S curve: populations are restricted by limiting factors

  • Species with longer life spans tend to follow this type of curve

• J curve: there is no restriction on population growth

  • Insect populations will rise exponentially and disappear at the end of the warm season

Zero Population Growth - when births plus immigration equals deaths plus emigration for a generation

Age Structure -  the number of males and females in each of 3 age groups for a population
