The 4 Properties of Minerals

  1. Naturally Occurring - NOT Man Made

  2. Inorganic - Not made from living things

  3. Definite Chemical Composition - Always has the same chemical formula

  4. Orderly Arrangement of Atoms - Atoms line up a certain way every time.

The Known Mineral Groups​ - Classified by their IONS. (Atoms or Atom Groupings with Charges)

  • Silicates, Carbonates, Sulfides, Oxides, Halides, Sulfates, Phosphates, and Native Elements
