ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE

FOR YOUR NOTEBOOK:

Notes:

  • Pressure = Force Applied/Area of Which the force is Applied

  • Unit for Pressure is 1 N/m2 or 1 Pascal (Pa)

    • Force is measured in Newtons (N)

    • Surface Area is measured in Meters Squared (m2)

  • In American Units, it’s measured as PSI, “Pounds per square inch”

  • In System International Units (SI), 1 PSI is equal to 6895 Pa

  • Barometer - Tool used to measure pressure.

  • Blood Pressure Application - the recorded pressure of your blood on your arterial walls.

  • Hydraulics Application - We use fluids and the pressure equation to lift large objects with minimal force.

  • Weather Application - Pressure is the reason for wind.

  • There is a city near the top of the Andes mountains that no children can be born due to low pressure and low oxygen.
