PRESSURE AND CHEMICALS ELECTROLYSIS | CARTESIAN DIVER

CARTESIAN DIVER

HOW DO SUBMARINES WORK?

ASSIGNMENT FOR YOUR NOTEBOOK:

Notes:

  • Boyles Law - When the pressure of a gas is increased at a constant, the volume decreases.  At a fixed temperature and a fixed amount of gas, volume and pressure behave inversely.

  • Charles' Law - When the temperature of a gas is increased at a constant pressure, its volume increases. When the temperature of a gas is decreased at a constant pressure, its volume decreases.

  • Archimedes Principle - If the weight of the water displaced is less than the weight of the object, the object will sink.  If the weight of the water displaced is more than the weight of the object, the object will float.

  • Electrolysis - Adding Electricity to a substance to separate its chemical components.

Key Concept:  Many systems rely on these pressure laws and principles to function properly.  Submarines, Hydraulics, Syringes, Ventilators, Pressure Sensors.
