PRESSURE CENTERS | HIGHS | LOWS

QUICK, TO THE POINT, PRESSURE VIDEO

FOR YOUR NOTEBOOK:

Notes:

The atmosphere is pulled down by Earth's gravity.

The highest pressure of the entire atmosphere is at the bottom of this OCEAN OF AIR.  (Near the surface)

  • Low pressure centers are areas where the Earth heats up, causing the air above it to heat up by CONDUCTION.  The air CONVECTS upward and forms clouds/stormy weather.

  • High pressure centers are areas where cool or "more dense" air drops down from the sky, also due to CONVECTION.  These areas usually have very clear skies.

Key Concepts:

  1. High Pressure Air Masses always move toward Low Pressure Air Masses.

  2. This is where WIND comes from.

  3. Air Pressure depends on TEMPERATURE AND DENSITY.
