THE MISSION

OUR 9TH GRADE SCIENCE PRIORITIES

  • Acclimate you to High School with a strong start

  • Develop a positive outlook toward science fields

  • Help you explore and fully understand how concepts relate to careers

  • Help you to gain confidence, so you can make High School work for your benefit

DAILY SUPPLIES

BOTH ONLINE AND IN PERSON

  1. Science Notebook:  You need to keep vocabulary, notes, labs, and warm-ups.

  2. Computer w/ Charger:  For our curriculum,  assessments, labs, and other activities.  I may even teach you how to digitize your portfolio.  

  3. Writing Utensils: Pens or Pencils

  4. Respect: This goes toward your classmates, your teachers, and you.  A lot of work went into this course.  We expect reciprocation in that you use it to your advantage.

THE DAY TO DAY

GENERAL PHILOSOPHY

MUSICAL WARM-UP
ENGAGE

*In Class*  Students enter and set up their notebooks based on what's on the board/screen.  Music starts where students follow the, teacher provided, fill-in to engage them.

EXPLANATION

Discussion of Musical Warm-up concepts, followed by prompt toward exploration for the day.

HANDS-ON EXPLORATION

Students do an activity to link the new concepts to real life scenarios and careers.

ELABORATION

We go over the activity and elaborate on misconceptions.

EVALUATION

There are a variety of ways in which students are regularly evaluated for their work.  This includes notebook checks, small quizzes, tests, written pieces, projects, and presentations.

EXTENSION

Students will be given opportunities to see past what is required.

Parents will have the opportunity to present, should they have a career in the concepts we teach.  

After school exploration in science is encouraged.
