BUILDING YOUR PORTFOLIO
SEVERE WEATHER PROJECT

TIPS FOR YOUR DIGITAL PORFOLIO

INTRODUCTIONS

Because our school doesn't support website creation on Wix, we will be using Google Sites to create our next project.  Let's have some fun with this.  It may be a blessing in disguise.

  1. Go to Google Sites

  2. Create a site with the preloaded template called "Student Portfolio"

BUILDING YOUR FIRST PAGE

Building Your First Page

Use this first page to edit the following items:

    • Name

    • Current Possible Career Choices

    • Courses you have taken, are currently taking, or plan on taking in the future to help you attain this career.

    • Name a few people in your life that have helped you.  People that have inspired you in one way or another and the reasons why.  This part doesn’t have to be educational, but it can be.

    • Some things about you that you’d like to share to future employers.

  1. Basically, fill in everything you can about your current situation at Quakertown.  Feel free to just get a feel for the buttons and options within Google Sites.

YOUR SEVERE WEATHER PROJECT PAGE

CREATE A NEW PAGE CALLED "SEVERE WEATHER PROJECT"

Your Severe Weather page will include the following items about a made up Severe Weather Scenario that you need to research.  Feel free to create sections about the following.  Know that all sections need to include some sort of picture (media), title, and description.

  • Start by picking a type of Severe Weather (Tornado, Hurricane, Flood, Drought, Blizzard, or Hailstorm)

  • Describe how this weather forms.  Include words like temperature, pressure, and the phase changes (ex. condensation, evaporation)

  • A known example of your severe weather in the past.

    • Location

    • Date

    • Characteristics that make it a well known severe weather example

  • Instructions for people to prepare for the Severe Weather.  (Think of Homes, Cars, Pets, and Clothing)

  • Weather Symbols that could be seen on a map in that area.

  • What Weather Fronts would be associated with your Severe Weather Example.

  • To Be Determined (You have a choice between the following)

    • A work of art to describe how your weather forms.

    • A video diary of you experiencing the weather and what you're going through.

    • An invention to help combat the weather or predict it.

    • A written diary of what someone experiences going through this form of severe weather.

    • A weather forecast of the  weather on video. (May be done with a partner)

Publish your site when ready.  You may use this site for future projects as an alternative and wonderful place to hold some of your created content.  This is to market you.  Remember to be safe and professional.
