Thermal Energy Extended

Thermal Appliance - An appliance that uses thermal energy, or thermal energy transfer to do a job.

Appliances

     A.  Electrical Heater - Electricity converts to thermal energy when it comes in contact with a metal coil or                                                ceramic pad.  The object will get hot and radiate.  Fans near the object will turn to                                                convect warm air around the room.  Warm air touches your skin and conducts                                                        thermal energy into your body.  Sometimes the radiation will be absorbed by your                                                skin which will heat it up as well.

     B.  Propane Heater - Fuel is ignited.  A fan blows the hot air around.  The flames give off radiation.                                                         Heat convects from heater to where there is less heat.   

     C.  Microwave - The microwave sends microwave radiation and concentrates it on the materials inside.                                           The material absorbs the radiation and gains thermal energy.

     D.  Convection Oven - Electricity converts to thermal energy in the coils.  The coils radiate.  The fan blows                                                the heat around the oven to evenly cook your products..

     E.  Hair Iron - Hair irons have a ceramic pad that gets hot from electricity converting to thermal energy.                                    That thermal energy conducts into your hair which makes it lose its rigidity.  You shape it, and                               then when your hair cools it stays there.
